CRM and Salesforce

What is CRM ?

We all know that CRM is an acronym for Customer Relationship Management
It refers to the methodologies and tools that keeps track of business processes and manage customer relationships in an organized and effective way.

In short, the concept of CRM is to
i  ) keep track of existing customers
ii ) retain them in business portfolio and
iii) profit from their growth

It describes the strategy that a company uses to handle customer interactions. CRM software can help by storing all this information in an easy-access format. With a typical CRM program, new leads are entered into the program's database and salespeople add notes throughout the sales cycle. It's then easy for a company to compile reports from this data that help it to design a CRM strategy that's tailored to its customers.

A few examples where CRM can ease our work

1. In a Recruiting Application, Recruiters can be assigned automatically whenever a new job application for a  Position in an organization was submitted. The Recruting Managers can keep track of this assignment.

2. A salesperson might program his CRM to send out a "thank you" message whenever a customer reaches one-year anniversary of purchase, or to send an e-card on the customer's birthday.

Traditional CRM vs Cloud CRM:

Traditional software development follows a standard process of development, testing, and deployment. It typically requires a development environment—a place where you can develop code without affecting end users. Such a development environment typically includes high-performance development tools with features such as automated testing and version control to support team development.

Traditional customer relationship management’s strong suit has been improved operational effectiveness, easier access to data, and improved collaboration. Social media adds the dimension of connecting with potential customers.

To help overcome customer acquisition challenges, many small businesses are looking into customer relationship management (CRM) tools and strategies. In the past, many viewed CRM as being too complex and expensive to implement for the expected return on investment. But over the last couple of years, software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings from the likes of Salesforce.com, NetSuite, and a host of others have allowed companies of all sizes to implement CRM products and services at a fraction of the cost, time and effort needed in the past

In order for this kind of development to occur on the cloud platform, individual application components have been exposed as simple text-based files that can be transported, versioned, and merged.
